New Fan Art of Aiden MacRae!

I love Aiden's Angels and how they use their gifts and talents to express their affection for Aiden MacRae. If you check the Aiden's Angels page of my site, you'll see the variety of art I've received from readers who love the crazy hot Scotsman like I do!

Today's fan art comes from Pau Castillo of the Philippines, who recently read Between and wrote an awesome review, saying how she flipped the last page and needed a good reason to move on with her life. LOL Gotta love that! :)

Pau creates fan art for characters she becomes attached to, though she says she's better at writing than drawing. Maybe she'll have to try her hand at writing a fanfic scene like these on the Aiden's Angels blog!

When I asked what it was about Aiden that inspired her, she said, "Aiden is, well, the kind of guy any girl would love to have and is rare to find nowadays. I love how he's such a gentleman to Lindsey and even honoring the sacredness of marriage before making love to her. It's the kind of chivalry that I personally rarely see nowadays."

I could not agree more. Aiden tries hard to do the right thing, to honor Lindsey, and to be virtuous, and that is one of the many things we all love about him!

Thanks, Pau, for your awesome fan art of Aiden MacRae, and to all of Aiden's Angels who work to spread the love of our courageous and smokin' hot Scot!

Win a Paperback Copy of Persephone's Orchard!

The Greek gods never actually existed. Did they? Sophie Darrow finds she was wrong about that assumption when she's pulled into the spirit realm, complete with an Underworld, on her first day at college. Adrian, the mysterious young man who brought her there, simply wants her to taste a pomegranate.

Soon, though she returns to her regular life, her mind begins exploding with dreams and memories of ancient times; of a love between two Greeks named Persephone and Hades. But lethal danger has always surrounded the immortals, and now that she's tainted with the Underworld's magic, that danger is drawing closer to Sophie.

My lovely writer friend, Molly Ringle, has crafted a delicious and entrancing tale in Persephone's Orchard and I am lucky enough to have a signed paperback copy to give away to one lucky winner! You want this, people!

How Do I Love to Tease Thee? Let Me Count The Ways!

I want to give a heartfelt thanks to Koomkey.com and to everyone who donated to the #VTtoRT campaign. We collected over $700 (including the generous match) toward's Vicki Trask's trip to the RT Convention in May! *sets off fireworks*

As a reward for your awesomeness, I posted on my FB page a couple teasers from the fourth and final book of the Between series. Just in case you missed them, here they are again!

*****

The windows rattled with the force of the wind and rain outside. Moonlight streamed into the room, interrupted only by the flickering candles around his altar. He stepped forward, chanting an incantation in a tongue that had not survived the ages, the one he was born to speak.

Ceriida telus kvarial
Hubride shalaa miejr

His hand disappeared into the folds of his cloak briefly as he extracted a sgian dubh with a razor sharp edge. On the altar rested a small cauldron, already brimming with the blood of an innocent girl he’d slain that morning in preparation for the evening’s rites. She was a street urchin; she would not be missed. Light as a feather in his steely grip, she’d made a soft, gurgling sound as he’d sliced the blade across her neck, extracting the necessary ingredient for his birthing ceremony. He’d dropped her in the shadows beside a dumpster to be collected with the day’s trash. She’d served her purpose. He felt no remorse.

Reveloria onghamii plius
Desari sodam glarava

The storm kicked up outside as he drew nearer the cauldron. A quick flash of silver and his own essence was mingling with that of the urchin’s. Drip. Hiss. Drip. Hiss. His nostrils flared at the familiar scent of the now writhing pool of blood.

Decevus uighel hy yawe
Torag avear iuyovir da

A shimmering haze formed in the air above the cauldron. Voice rising with each phrase, he lifted both arms and called to the souls on the other side of the portal. He felt their response to his summons like a vise grip on his lungs. His body shook with the effort to keep the wavering portal alive. Hell itself pressed against the thin film, waiting to be set free, waiting for the portal to be thrown open at last, the goal he had so utterly failed at before, but now lay within his reach.

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not yet read Even In Darkness, you don't want to read this teaser, as it reveals a critical plot point from that book!

*********

“When I finished my ride, Ian met me out at the barn and said he and Sarah have a surprise for us. We’re to come to the house as soon as you’re ready. Shall we be off to see what it is?” The dimple in his smile chased away my dark thoughts and I took a deep breath. Well, as deep a breath as I could manage with limited lung space.

“A surprise, huh? Don’t you think they’ve done enough for us already?” I gestured to the nursery with one hand.

“That they have. But love knows no bounds. Not theirs for us. And not mine for you.”

His lips came down over mine, soft and seeking. I opened for him and tasted him, got lost in him for a moment. When we pulled apart, his blue eyes had darkened and gone fuzzy around the edges. “Perhaps they can wait just a moment longer…” He reached down and picked me up, making me squawk in surprise. He grinned at me, obviously proud of his ability to still carry me in his arms. A chuckle bubbled up from deep within me. Damn, I was so lost to this man.

“You know, they say that sex can bring on labor,” I said with a teasing tone.

“What?” he said, his jaw dropping open so dramatically that I couldn’t help but laugh harder. “Truly?” he said with a waggle of his eyebrows.

“Stop it. You’re going to make me pee.”

With a flourish, he set me back on my feet and gave me a raucous wink. “Fine, pee. And then we’re going to see if what they say is true. I reckon we’ve waited long enough to meet this bairn.” With a smack on my bottom, he chased me down the hall to our tiny bathroom and waited for me, then led me into the bedroom where he proved just how creative he could be in getting his way.

Make an Angel's dream come true!

If you haven't heard, I am going to the RT Booklovers Convention in New Orleans in May 2014, and I am CRAZEEEE excited! I've never been to a major conference before and while part of me is completely terrified, the bigger part feels like a kid waiting for Christmas.

But, possibly the coolest thing about the trip is that I have made arrangements to room with Vicki Trask, president of the Aiden's Angels fan club! Even though Vicki and I email and tweet regularly with each other, we've never met in person.

Here's the deal, though. Vicki is a full-time student in Canada and she's going to have to scrounge up a pretty hefty chunk of change to make it to the conference. Even eating Top Ramen noodles and ketchup packets every day can only get you so far.

So I asked my incredible friends at koomkey.com to help us out, and they generously offered to match up to $300 in Koomkey donations to Vicki during the month of September.

How cool is that??? I love those guys!!

So let's show what an amazing, loving community we have here in Aiden's Angels and help Vicki get to the RT Conference!!

To contribute, all you have to do is go to koomkey.com and send @vatrask a koomkey (aka a kashkey). Use the hashtag #VTtoRT so we can keep track.

Even donations as small as 25 cents will be matched, so don't be shy. Every little bit counts toward making this Angel's dream come true!

The campaign will run through September 30th. Please help spread the word and let's see if we can't raise enough to blast through that match and get Vicki to New Orleans.

Many thanks to all of you for being such awesome readers and friends. I adore you.

Now, go, Angels, go!! Like fierce, kilted warriors, we declare IT IS ON!!

They're Here! New Covers for the Between Series

BIG NEWS!!

No one does the excited flail quite like Kermit the Frog. LOL

Kermit is showing just how excited I am to share the new covers for the Between series with all of you! Gabrielle Prendergast, Aiden's Angel extraordinaire, put her incredible skills to the test and after hours of scouring the web for pics of smoking hot guys (a tough job, but somebody's got to do it!), she put together these pieces of heaven to showcase our beloved Aiden MacRae!

Aren't they gorgeous? *swoons*

I can't thank Gabrielle from Cover Your Dreams enough for all the work and passion she put into these new covers. If you're an author, you MUST check out her work. Amazing creativity, professionalism, and lightning fast with all the nitpicky details that obnoxious authors like me throw at her.

The new ebook covers will start popping up online over the next week as the various retail sites upload the files. Print copies will still be in the old covers, and I have several on hand, so if you're hankering for a paperback, head over to the store to get a personalized copy with the old covers made out just for you.

Wait, you thought we were done?

Hells, no!

The lovely and talented Lindsay Cox from Violet Hour Book Reviews has come up with a new Aiden's Angels logo to go along with the new covers. Vicki Trask, prez of the fan club, is working hard to get them loaded onto the Cafe Press site so you can get Aiden's Angels gear with the new logo!

Thanks to all of Aiden's Angels for spreading the word about the new covers, and for sharing the love of this series with your friends and family. I wouldn't still be writing Aiden and Lindsey's journey if it weren't for all of you. Mwah!

New Between series covers coming Wednesday!

I've got exciting news to share with you! (As if you couldn't tell from my gif above- LOL)

While I adore the covers that Woulds 'N Shoulds Editing and Design made for the Between series, I've been thinking for a while now that I'd like to test the waters with covers that have more of a New Adult feel.

I got chatting on the subject with Aiden's Angel Gabrielle Prendergast who, lo and behold, makes awesome covers!

*gasp* I know, right?

Could I love the Angels more? No, I don't think so.

So Gabrielle took on the exceedingly difficult task of scrolling through thousands of pics of hot guys (yes, let's take a moment to appreciate her sacrifice) and came up with three new covers for the Between series that blew me away.

I know you're going to love them as much as I do!

This coming Wednesday, August 21st, we'll have a reveal of the beautiful new covers. If you didn't get the email that I sent out to all of Aiden's Angels and would like to participate in the cover reveal, just shoot me an email at cynditefft [at] gmail [.] com. << I have no idea if these sorts of things keep the webcrawlers from picking up my email, but it's worth a shot, right?

Hopefully these new covers will bring more Angels into the fold so we can spread the love of Aiden MacRae far and wide!

Final Day of the Even In Darkness Tour *sniffle*

You know, they say that all good things must come to an end. Robert the Bruce's heart came to an end and is buried under this marker that I photographed in Scotland. How creepy is that???

Vengeance By Jamie Canosa (and a giveaway!)

Aiden's Angel extraordinaire, Jamie Canosa, (who made book trailers of awesome for Between and Hell Transporter) also happens to be a fantastic author! Her first book, Dissidence, came out last year (see my review here), and now the sequel is out!

Things aren’t always as they seem. In fact, in a world of secrets and lies almost nothing ever is, but Kaleigh made her choices and now she has to live with the consequences.

Haunted by her guilt, Kaleigh is forced to question everything she thought she knew. From friends and foes, to loyalty and love, she’s quickly losing faith in herself and those around her.

Everyone she cares about has been hurtled to the front lines, but can Kaleigh find the strength within herself to keep fighting? Or, surrounded by loss, deceit, and betrayal, will her fiery spirit finally be extinguished?

Dissidence ended on a massive cliffhanger, so I was eager to get my hands on the sequel to find out where on Earth the story was going to go from there. I had my theories, but I could not have been more wrong. A couple pages in, my jaw was hanging open. She didn't! Oh, yes, she did. And she walked me through the aftermath step by step, letting me steep in the agony and determination that can come from loss.

Canosa doesn't shy away from true feelings in this book, which was one of the many things I loved about it. Dystopians paint a picture of a ruined society, but humans are humans no matter the setting, and Canosa did a fantastic job of being real inside a dystopian world.

Kayleigh's voice is snarky and sarcastic throughout both books. She made me smile with her unflagging sense of humor, even when death was a near certainty. The action is non-stop and intense, but thankfully, not gory. In fact, the characters go out of their way to disarm and disable opponents without killing them, which I found a nice reprieve from the ultra violent themes popular today. Dissidence has the same feel and tension of Divergent by Veronic Roth. But Vengeance surpasses Insurgent by a mile, in my opinion!

If you're a fan of YA dystopian novels, you owe it to yourself to check out these books. And then you can say you knew her back before she became a NYT Bestselling Author!

Connect with Jamie on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads, and don't forget to follow her blog. Then enter the giveaway below so you can see for yourself what I'm talking about! Can't wait for the giveaway? Then pick up your copies of Dissidence and Vengeance now. You won't be sorry!

The Importance of Being "There"

I have a friend who's entrusted me with a secret. It's nothing bad; it's just something she doesn't want other people to know, and I respect that. I haven't told anyone else and I'm not going to.

But when I mentioned to her that I was honored she'd chosen to tell me, she said, "It's because I needed to tell someone and you were there." At first, I laughed and teased her, saying, "Oh great, it's not because you love me and trust me or anything; it's not because I'm some amazing friend; it's just that I was there. Niiiiice." Chuckling, she hastened to clarify that she does love me and all, and we moved on to something new in our conversation.

But I've been thinking about what she said, and I've come to the realization that being there really does matter.

How many times have I gone onto Twitter to reach out to another human being who is connected and active online right at that very moment because I needed someone who was there? Most of the people I follow on Twitter are complete strangers to me, but being BFFs is not the requirement most times. I just want someone to be there to share life with at that particular moment, and just about any person will do. It's the magic of Twitter, really.

There's a reason that long-distance relationships are so difficult to maintain. It's the lack of thereness. My best friend lives five hours away and she and I have to work hard to keep our friendship alive because we can't always be there for one another. We can't just grab a cup of coffee and catch up. We have to carve out time together in order to nurture that relationship because being there is so important.

I've heard it said that showing up is half the battle, and I'm thinking it might account for more than half. The importance of simply being there for someone who has something to share can't be over emphasized. It's what connects us, makes us a community, and reveals the God-imprint in each of us.

Was there a time in your life when you needed someone to just be there and they were? What did that mean to you?

Sign up for the Even In Darkness blog tour!

The third book in the Between series, Even In Darkness, came out on April 1st, and has gotten some great reviews already! I thought it would be fun to put together a blog tour for the new book so that readers who fell in love with Aiden MacRae before will know there's a new book with even more Aiden yumminess out now, and maybe even introduce some new folks to our hot Scot. :)

The blog tour will run from July 28 through August 3, which will hopefully give everyone enough time to fit it into their schedules. I've created a sign-up sheet where you can let me know if you're interested in participating. I'll collect responses on the sign-up sheet, then work with everyone on specific dates and posts.

If you have friends or social connections who might be interested in participating, please forward them the link to the sign-up sheet. The more, the merrier, of course!

Thanks to the lovely Lindsay Cox from Violet Hour Book Reviews for the awesome banner above! Please use the banner on your blogs to promote the upcoming tour, if you're going to participate!

A bonus scene for Aiden MacRae's birthday!

Aiden MacRae was born on May 1, 1699, so that officially makes him 314 years old today! Wowza! I couldn't think of anything better for Aiden's birthday than a little extra Lindsey lovin' so here's a special scene I wrote especially for the occasion. It takes place in the beginning of Hell Transporter. Enjoy!

***

The late morning sun streams through the window of the cabin loft. I stretch in the warmth of the bed and watch tiny particles of dust dance in the yellow rays. Aiden breathes deep and even at my side and I allow myself a moment to bask in the rightness that is this moment, this bubble of time we’ve carved out of reality, where only he and I exist, tucked away in the woods, trying to catch up on all the time we’ve missed.
One thing I missed this past year is about to be rectified, if only I can sneak away quietly enough to keep from waking him. If he wakes up, he’ll want to know what I’m doing and I want to surprise him.
Sliding out of the bed, I gingerly place one foot on the bare hardwood floor and then another, all the while listening to Aiden’s breathing. In. Out. In. Out.
So far, so good.
Then I’m free of the bed’s embrace and clothed in nothing more than a sunbeam, still listening, afraid he’ll sense that I’m missing from the bed. But he doesn’t, so I quickly slip a satin nightie on and tiptoe down the stairs to grab his present out of my purse.
Once I hit the kitchen floor, I am lightning speed, hoping I’ll make it back before he wakes up. Careful to skip the squeaky step, I dash back up the stairs and round the corner just as Aiden rolls onto his back and breathes out a deep sigh. His eyes are closed, but he is starting to stir. The sheet is lightly draped across his hips and tented in the middle. I can’t help the grin that steals across my face at the sight.
His blond hair is mussed and one cheek has a pink crease running down the side from where he was fast asleep. He blinks twice and turns his head, eyes slightly unfocused as he takes a second to remember where he is. When I step closer to the bed, his gaze locks with mine and the sleepy smile of recognition he offers makes my heart swell.
“Good morning,” I say, walking to the foot of the bed with his present held in one hand behind my back.
“And to you,” he replies, sitting up a little so he can lean back against the headboard. One eyebrow pops up and he gestures with his chin to my arm. “What are ye hiding there?”
Dang, he’s always so perceptive. Oh well, I can work with this.
“Noooothing…” I’m climbing onto the bed by his feet, placing my knees on either side of him as I make my way up his body and toward the edge of the sheet where his skin looks painted by the sun.
“Is that right? Then what of the mischievous grin?”
“Who, me? I don’t know what you mean.”
“I think ye do.”
I tsk my tongue at him. “So suspicious. Can’t a girl just come give her hubby a kiss in the morning without ulterior motives?”
He chuckles, flashing that dimple in his cheek. “Ah, but I know you’re up to no good.” He watches my progress up his body, coming closer and closer to the tented sheet, which is now drawn tight across his abdomen.
“Now why would you say a thing like that? As it turns out, I have a present for you.”
With a quick glance downward, he gives me a wolfish grin and says, “I have one for you, too.”
With my free hand, I tickle him on the ribs and make him squirm. “Mine first.”
“Yes, ma’am,” he says, pulling a serious face. “But ye don’t need to give me a present. I have all I need. You, me, this.” He sits halfway up to press a soft kiss to my lips.
“It’s for your birthday,” I reply, pressing him back down onto the pillow.
“My birthday? Today is not my birthday. ‘Tis the first of May and it has to be—what?—June? July? Lord, I haven’t a clue.”
“It doesn’t matter. I missed your actual birthday…” My heart pinches at the not-too-distant memory of the months we spent apart, but I shove the negative thought aside. “So I’m giving you a belated present now.”
“Thank ye, mo chridhe.”
“You’re welcome. And it’s probably a good thing you thanked me now, because you’re not going to be able to make sensible words for a while.”
“What do you—”
“Close your eyes.”
He does as he is bid, though I can see the confusion in his wrinkled brow. It makes me feel a teensy bit wicked. I like it.
From behind my back, I pull out the heated massage oil that I picked up when we went shopping in Spokane, squirt a dollop onto my palm, and place the bottle aside. Rubbing my hands together to activate the heat, I let my eyes drink in the sight of his bare chest, lightly dusted with blond hair, and taut with anticipation. His thighs clench beneath me as I wiggle back and forth to secure my position.
Fingers slick and warm, I spread my hands across his chest and slide them down his stomach. His breath hisses in as his muscles jerk beneath my palms. His skin sucks down the oil so quickly that I grab the bottle and dribble more over his naked body before rubbing it in with slow, wide circles.
“Lindsey…” His groan is a physical force that reaches out and strokes me back.
I pull the sheet out of the way and liberally apply more of the massage oil, watching the pulse in his neck.
“Can I open my eyes? In the name of all that is holy, I want to watch ye, lass.”
“Well, because you asked so nicely…”
His lashes sweep up and those blue eyes sear me to the core. Gone is the sleepy smile and in its place is a lava filled haze of desire that has me rocking in place. He reaches out and tugs the spaghetti straps of my nightgown down so they fall over my shoulders.
“So you like your birthday present?” I ask with a teasing smile.
“Best birthday ever,” he replies, though his voice sounds hoarse. “And now I’d like to give ye my present.” Before I can even let out a squeak, he flips me onto my back and crushes his mouth to mine.

Release Day is Finally Here!

No fooling, today is the release of Even In Darkness! It's crazy to think of my third book out in the wild. People are reading it RIGHT NOW. I cannot even express the mixture of exhilaration and terror that this knowledge inspires in me.

Because let's be honest. You might feel like this upon reading the first few chapters:
It's true, our beloved Lindsey and Aiden are in for a difficult time of it in this book. I won't lie to you. You might even shed a tear or two (though if you've read the first two books, you know how I love making readers cry!).
But let me assure you, by the time you reach the end of the book, you will have moved past the tears. Well, the tears may have at least morphed into happy ones.
I love you, peeps, and I am so excited to share this book with you! It was a risk for me as an author, a stretch assignment if you will, but Lindsey and Aiden prove once again that their love is strong enough to weather whatever storm I throw their way.

Thanks to all of Aiden's Angels for spreading the word about the book release today (available in Kindle, Nook, Kobo, and print). You rock my world!

Fight or Flight Blog Tour and Giveaway!

I'm proud to be part of the blog tour promoting Jamie Canosa's new book, Fight or Flight!

Be smart.
Keep your head down.
And look out for number one.

These are the rules Jay has lived by for the past two years. The rules of surviving life on the streets. But when Em comes bursting into his life, in all of her disastrous glory, the rules go right out the window.
Survive.
Flee what’s been left behind.
And never look back.

Em’s plan was simple. Though, it was easier said than done. The city streets are dangerous and unforgiving to a new arrival. Especially, a seventeen year old girl who’s never known anything but life in the suburbs. Sometimes, however, what’s lurking behind those white picket fences can be more frightening than any dark alley.

Both of them made the same decision when life got overwhelming—to run from their demons. Brought together by fate or circumstance, Em and Jay find the kind of love neither of them ever expected. But when those demons come back to haunt them and their love is on the line, which instincts will they choose to follow this time . . . Fight or Flight?

*Warning: This story includes mature language and themes, and is intended for mature audiences.
